BADAGRY, LAGOS — HRM Aholu Jonah Solomon Egbenayon, The Jakavi I, Owa Ajaka of Agemowo Kingdom, has joined mourners globally and the entire Ogu race to mourn the passing of the De-Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, the Akran of Badagry Kingdom.
The ancient city of Badagry and the surrounding Ogu communities have been plunged into mourning following the official announcement of the passing of the Akran of Badagry Kingdom. The paramount ruler, a titan of tradition and a pillar of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, reportedly joined his ancestors on Monday, leaving a significant vacuum in the traditional leadership of the region.
The news of his demise has resonated deeply within the Agemowo Kingdom. Leading the tributes. In a formal statement released on Tuesday, the Agemowo monarch expressed profound sadness over the loss of a ruler he described as a "Reverend Royal Father" whose influence extended far beyond the borders of Badagry.
In a statement issued through his palace’s head of media, Aholu Jonah Egbenayon lauded the late Akran for his unwavering commitment to the stability of the Badagry Division. The Jakavi I emphasized that the Akran’s reign was defined by his tireless work in fostering peace and unity within the traditional circle. His role as a bridge-builder was instrumental in maintaining the cultural harmony that defines the coastal region of Lagos State.
Reflecting on the late monarch's personal impact, the Owa Ajaka of Agemowo described the Akran as a mentor and a father figure to other traditional rulers. "He lived by a good example and impacted countless lives through his wisdom and leadership," the statement noted.
As funeral rites are expected to begin in accordance with the sacred traditions of the Badagry Kingdom, the people of Agemowo and the wider Ogu community stand in solidarity to honor the memory of a king whose legacy of service will be remembered for generations.
