BADAGRY, Lagos – Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, the federal lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency, has issued a strong condemnation following a disturbing incident where a woman was reportedly shot by a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officer in the Igbogbele area of Badagry.

The victim, identified as Mrs. Hunsu Elizabeth, was allegedly struck by a stray bullet while inside her own home. The shot was purportedly fired by an officer from the NIS Border Patrol unit attached to the Seme Border Command.

In an official press release, Hon. Whingan expressed his outrage, describing the shooting as “deeply troubling and totally unacceptable.” He is demanding an immediate and thorough investigation into the conduct of the immigration officer involved to ensure full accountability.

“We are grateful that her life was spared, and I pray for her quick and full recovery. My heartfelt sympathy goes to her, her family, and everyone shaken by this unfortunate event,” the federal representative stated.

Hon. Whingan used the opportunity to lament a pattern of harassment and endangerment of Badagry residents by security operatives. He highlighted that such incidents often occur during chases through densely populated residential neighborhoods, putting innocent lives at risk.

“The high number of checkpoints and the unprofessional conduct of some officers continue to endanger innocent citizens. This must stop,” Whingan stated firmly, echoing the concerns of many in the Badagry community.

Reaffirming his commitment to the safety and dignity of his constituents, the lawmaker issued a stern warning that the reckless use of force and intimidation by uniformed personnel would no longer be tolerated.

To enact concrete change, Hon. Whingan announced a direct course of action. “My office will immediately engage the leadership of the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Customs Service, and other relevant agencies to demand accountability and push for reforms that put public safety first,” he assured.

This incident has sparked renewed calls for enhanced professionalism and stricter rules of engagement for security personnel operating within and around the Seme Border region and the wider Badagry area.
