In a shocking incident in Osun State, a 22-year-old man has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for attempting to rape two women he caught stealing pepper from a farm.

The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, allegedly threatened to report the women to security agents unless they submitted to his sexual demands.

According to a statement by NSCDC Public Relations Officer Kehinde Adeleke, the incident occurred at Ita-Olokan in Osogbo. The suspect, who does not own the farm, confronted the women as they plucked pepper. Instead of simply reporting them, he allegedly demanded sex as "payment" for their freedom.

While one victim managed to escape, the other was physically assaulted. The suspect later confessed that he did not fully rape her but ejaculated on her out of fear that the escaped woman would return with help.

In a related development, the Osun NSCDC also disclosed the arrest of two suspects for encroaching on government land in the Oke-Osun area. The suspects reportedly destroyed demarcation lines and illegally excavated sand for sale. Investigations revealed that multiple truck drivers have been exploiting the land, selling sand to unsuspecting buyers.

Osun NSCDC Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to fighting crime and urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly. With rising cases of theft, sexual exploitation, and land fraud, the NSCDC is intensifying efforts to ensure public safety.
