Abuja, Nigeria – In a major infrastructure boost, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a staggering N2 trillion for key sections of the Sokoto–Badagry Highway and N1.65 trillion for the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway.

The approvals, announced by Minister of Works David Umahi, signal a massive push to upgrade Nigeria’s road network and enhance interstate connectivity.

The FEC approved N961 billion for a 258km dual carriageway in Kebbi State, complementing an earlier N947 billion contract for a single carriageway awarded in August 2024.

Additionally, 120km in Sokoto State was approved for N456 billion, bringing the total investment in these sections to N2 trillion.

“In Kebbi, we now have 516km of road, while Sokoto will get 240km a major leap in infrastructure development,” Umahi stated.

The Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway will see 80.35km of six-lane road construction across Ogun and Ondo States, costing N1.65 trillion. The project includes soil replacement, elevation works, and flood prevention measures to ensure durability in swampy areas.

“This highway will transform trade and travel along Nigeria’s coastline, linking key economic hubs,” Umahi emphasized.
