Electricity Company Disowns Alleged PPP Scheme, Urges Customers to Verify Authentic Metering Programs

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has publicly distanced itself from a reported plan by the Badagry Local Government to distribute 70,000 prepaid meters in Lagos State.

In an official disclaimer posted on its Facebook page on Thursday, August 14, 2025, the power distribution firm warned residents against engaging in unauthorized metering schemes.

The company clarified that it has no affiliation with the purported "public-private partnership" (PPP) initiative between the government and DamLaw Energy Concept, as claimed in an online publication dated Monday, August 11, 2025.

The report, titled "Hunpe Receives Briefing as 70,000 Prepaid Meter Distribution Kicks Off in Badagry," suggested an official collaboration a claim EKEDC has strongly refuted.

EKEDC explicitly stated that Anthony Adekunle Ogungbemi and Engr. Daniel Adedokun, named as promoters of the scheme, are not contractors, certified Meter Asset Providers (MAPs), or staff of the company.

The DisCo emphasized that all legitimate meter distribution programs are federally approved and implemented in partnership with licensed Distribution Companies (DisCos).

The electricity distributor highlighted that authentic meter deployments are always preceded by public sensitization campaigns, detailing the process and guidelines. EKEDC urged customers to beware of fraudulent schemes, stressing that it will not be liable for losses arising from unauthorized transactions.
