Segun Onilude is Kriko Augustine |
Kriko Augustine, media aide to Hon. Segun Onilude, the outgoing Chairman of Badagry Local Government, has issued a public apology to residents of Ward I, covering Ikoga and neighboring communities, following concerns over the neglect of Pota Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC).
The apology, shared on Facebook, comes amid criticism from locals who questioned the administration’s commitment to healthcare infrastructure in the area.
Kriko admitted his initial shock upon seeing complaints about the state of Pota PHC, acknowledging the frustration of residents. He emphasized that while the Onilude-led administration had invested in upgrading several PHCs across Badagry including Ajido, Boekoh, Iluda, and Torikoh the oversight in Ward I was regrettable. "How did this slip through the cracks? Was it bureaucracy or pure oversight? I couldn’t find an answer," he wrote, stressing the need for accountability.
The media aide clarified that the administration never intentionally ignored any community, attributing delays to systemic challenges. However, he assured residents that constructive criticism was welcomed, describing it as essential for democratic accountability. "Leadership isn’t just about successes; it’s about owning lapses," Kriko stated, directly apologizing to Ward I stakeholders for any perceived neglect.
He also addressed broader infrastructural challenges, noting that some inherited issues required long-term solutions rather than rushed fixes. "Government is a continuum," he said, pledging that the administration remains committed to sustainable improvements in healthcare and other sectors.
Residents have since reacted to the apology, commend his magnanimity. "I hope all the other spokesperson see this intervention approach as something to emulate. The people know that your bosses, the public official, can not be perfect. Indeed, nobody is demanding perfection of anyone. All the people seek is TRUE EMPATHY and a STRONG COMMITMENT to the greater good of our communities." Dr. Seun Williams said.
Simeon Jijoho said, "The statement reflects, Empathy, Accountability and apology. Good to see the "own goal" scoring Sergio Ramos over the Aggressive Sergio Ramos in this particular situation."
