In a major move to strengthen agricultural ties in Africa, Nigeria has donated 100,000 cashew seeds and 2,000 seedlings to Ethiopia.

The contribution, announced by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to Nigeria’s Vice President, is set to cultivate 600 hectares of land, boosting Ethiopia’s cashew production.

The handover, received by Ethiopia’s Minister of State for Agriculture, Efa Boru, underscores a shared commitment to sustainable farming and food security across the continent. This initiative follows Ethiopia’s earlier donation of 2,000 Haas avocado seedlings and 2,000 coffee seedlings to Nigeria in June 2025, fostering a mutual exchange of agricultural resources.

According to Nkwocha, the donation aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s agricultural transformation agenda, reinforcing Nigeria’s “Green Revolution Diplomacy” a strategy to enhance international relations while tackling food insecurity.

The announcement comes as Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Addis Ababa for the second UN Food Systems Summit (July 27-29, 2025). The summit aims to accelerate global efforts in building resilient and sustainable food systems, following up on progress since the 2021 inaugural meeting.

This collaboration highlights Nigeria and Ethiopia’s leadership in driving agricultural innovation and food security across Africa.
