The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos has sparked excitement by renaming key streets and landmarks after Nigerian celebrities and politicians, replacing the iconic Charly Boy Bus Stop with Baddo Bus Stop in honor of superstar rapper Olamide Adedeji (Baddo).
The outgoing council chairman, Hon. Kolade Alabi David, announced the changes, explaining that the move celebrates individuals who have elevated Bariga’s reputation through their achievements.
"We took our time to recognize those who have put our local council on the global map through their talents and contributions to Nigeria’s development," David stated.
Ilaje Road→ King Sunny Ade Road (legendary jùjú musician)
Bariga Road → Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way (Nigeria’s President)
Community Road, Akoka → Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road (Lagos State Governor)
Ajidagan Street → Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street (Afrobeat icon)
Ifeanyi Street → Abolore Akande (9ice) Street (famous Fuji-pop artist)
Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak → Tony Tetuila Street (hip-hop legend)
Ilojo Crescent, Obanikoro → Bukayo Saka Street (Arsenal & England football star)
This rebranding follows a similar move by Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA, which recently renamed 24 streets after prominent figures.
The decision highlights the growing trend of Nigerian communities immortalizing cultural icons and political leaders through street naming a move that boosts local pride while sparking debates over legacy and recognition.
