In a momentous celebration of literary and cultural brilliance, the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN) has conferred an Honorary Fellowship on Professor Wole Soyinka, Nigeria’s globally acclaimed Nobel Laureate in Literature.
This prestigious recognition highlights Soyinka’s unparalleled contributions to literature, arts, and Nigeria’s cultural heritage, solidifying his legacy as one of Africa’s most influential intellectuals.
The decision to honor Soyinka was announced by Hon. Apata Samson Nunayon, National Vice President (South West) of ATPN, following the approval of the association’s Board of Trustees (BOT), led by Chairman Alhaji Kabir Malan. The award underscores Soyinka’s lifelong dedication to literature, human rights, and the promotion of African culture on the global stage.
The official presentationwill take place on July 11, 2025, during a special live stage play titled "THE NOBLE WARRIOR," organized in his honor by SYNDK8ML, under the leadership of its President and CEO, Mr. Cash Onadele. The historic Glover Memorial Hall on Lagos Island will serve as the prestigious venue for this grand event, which is expected to attract dignitaries, literary enthusiasts, and cultural icons from across Nigeria and beyond.
Beyond recognizing Soyinka’s literary genius, the event will also celebrate his 91st birthday, making it a dual commemoration of his life and legacy. The ATPN, in partnership with SYNDK8ML, aims to deliver a memorable tribute befitting the literary icon, featuring performances, speeches, and reflections on his impact on global literature and Nigerian tourism.
The ATPN’s recognition of Wole Soyinka reinforces his enduring influence on generations of writers, thinkers, and artists. As Nigeria and the world prepare to honor him once again, this event stands as a testament to his indelible mark on culture, activism, and the written word. The ceremony will not only celebrate his past achievements but also inspire future generations to uphold his legacy of excellence and intellectual courage.
