The Federal Government has pledged to ensure farmers' safety as they return to their farmlands ahead of this year’s rainy season, aiming to boost food production nationwide.

Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, revealed this during an interview in Maradun, Zamfara, on Sunday. He confirmed that forest guards have been deployed to secure farmlands while advanced surveillance technology is being used to track and prevent criminal activities.

"We are taking decisive action to guarantee farmers can work without fear of attacks. Every measure is in place to eliminate security threats,"** Matawalle stated.

In addition to on-ground security, the government is developing locally made defence systems to tackle insecurity, with potential plans to export these solutions to other nations.

Matawalle called on state governors to provide logistical support including housing, operational vehicles, and intelligence to strengthen rural security. He also criticized some governors for shifting blame instead of collaborating with federal efforts.

Emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility, he urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s integrated military and non-military strategies to end criminal activities across the country.
