Amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran, the Nigerian government has activated emergency plans to evacuate stranded citizens from both countries, ensuring their safety amid escalating conflict.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed late Tuesday that Nigerian embassies in Israel and Iran are coordinating evacuation efforts for affected nationals.
The Federal Government is finalizing arrangements for the emergency evacuation of stranded Nigerians in both countries following the escalation of hostilities," said ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa in an official statement.
Nigerian embassies are actively reaching out to citizens for safe return. The government urges compliance with embassy directives for swift evacuation. Diplomatic teams praised for efforts in crisis response.
Reiterating its stance, the Nigerian government condemned the violence and called for an immediate de-escalation.
"Nigeria stands firm in its support for the peaceful resolution of conflicts and reaffirms its longstanding commitment to regional and global peace and stability," the statement emphasized.
The crisis intensified after Israel’s large-scale airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, killing high-ranking officials, including Mohammad Bagheri and Hossein Sala. Iran retaliated with strikes, resulting in civilian and military casualties on both sides.
