Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the new train |
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched three brand-new train sets for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line at the National Theatre Station.
The unveiling, held on June 8, 2025, marks a major milestone in the state’s push for efficient urban mobility.
Each train set consists of four cars, effectively doubling passenger capacity on the Blue Line. This upgrade will cut wait times, speed up commutes, and enhance reliability for thousands of daily riders.
The governor also announced plans to reduce train intervals to just 10 minutes, ensuring smoother travel across the city.
Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for their crucial support in procuring and delivering the new trains.
Looking ahead, the governor revealed that new trains for the Red Line, with twice the capacity of the Blue Line, will arrive before the end of 2025.
Additionally, construction on Phase 2 of the Blue Line (Mile 2 to Okokomaiko) is advancing steadily.
