Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) appeals for peaceful, transparent elections as Lagos prepares for July 12 local government polls.

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has called on political parties and their agents to demonstrate sportsmanship and uphold democratic principles during the upcoming July 12 local government elections in Lagos State.

In an exclusive interview with journalists on Tuesday, Sunday Ogunforowa, President of NULGE in Lagos State, emphasized the need for political actors to act responsibly and respect the will of the people.

"The electorate, not political parties, will decide who governs them," Mr. Ogunforowa stated. "We urge all parties to accept the people’s choice, support the winning candidates, and maintain peace knowing that if it’s not their turn today, tomorrow offers another opportunity."

Lagos State has a history of conducting local government elections, often regarded as some of the best in Nigeria. The NULGE president expressed confidence in the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), citing improvements in electoral processes.

"LASIEC has raised the bar, and we expect nothing short of a free, fair, and credible election," he added.

Mr. Ogunforowa encouraged voters to: Turn out en masse to cast their ballots. Stay to monitor vote counting and document the process. Promote unity and pray for a peaceful, successful election.

As Lagos gears up for the polls, NULGE’s message is clear: Let democracy prevail, and let the people’s voice be heard.
