Lagos Gov. Sanwo-Olu Prostrates Before Tinubu, Seeks for Forgiveness

Amid impeachment fears and a deepening feud with President Bola Tinubu, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stunned onlookers by prostrating in a dramatic plea for reconciliation, will it be enough to save his political career?

In a striking display of Yoruba tradition, Governor Sanwo-Olu lay fully prostrate before President Tinubu during a high-stakes meeting in Ikoyi, seeking forgiveness after a failed power play that backfired spectacularly.

Sources close to the scene reveal the embattled governor’s desperate bid to mend ties as his grip on Lagos politics wobbles.

Eyewitnesses confirm that Sanwo-Olu, once a trusted Tinubu ally, dropped to the ground in a traditional act of remorse—a move insiders say was necessary to quell tensions after his botched attempt to oust Lagos Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa earlier this year.

“Even if the elder is wrong, the younger must still apologize,” a source whispered, highlighting the unspoken rules of Yoruba politics.

But forgiveness may not come easy. The governor’s troubles deepened after reports surfaced linking him to controversial socialite Aisha Achimugu, whose corruption case has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political elite. Worse yet, whispers of opposition ties have fueled rumors that Tinubu may be losing patience with his protegĂ©.

The rift turned viral last week when Tinubu conspicuously refused to shake Sanwo-Olu’s hand at a public event sparking frenzied speculation that the governor’s days in office could be numbered.

With Lagos’ Governance Advisory Council mediating, Sunday’s closed-door meeting may have temporarily eased tensions. But one question lingers: Has Sanwo-Olu truly regained Tinubu’s trust or is this just the calm before a political storm?

Peoples Gazette sources say the matter is “resolved”—for now. But in Nigerian politics, nothing is ever truly settled.
