Justice for Jamiu: Badagry Residents Protest Brutal Killing of Welder by Suspected Ritualists

By: Manoah Kikekon

Badagry  residents took to the streets, to protest the gruesome murder of a local welder, Jamiu Ishola, whose lifeless body was allegedly taken away by suspected ritualists.

The angry demonstrators stormed the Morogbo Police Station, demanding swift justice for the slain artisan and calling for the arrest of all those involved in the heinous crime.

Jamiu, a resident of Ikoga Zebbe, was last seen alive on Monday, June 16, 2025, leaving his workshop in Mowo on a ladies’ motorcycle (okada). When he failed to return home, his family launched a frantic search. Days later, his motorcycle, phone, clothes, and keys were discovered in an uncompleted building in Topo-Idale, Badagry.

A suspect, identified only as “Aboki”, was arrested at the scene with the victim’s belongings. Police sources revealed that Aboki confessed to being an accomplice, naming another suspect, “Ifa”, as the alleged killer who took Jamiu’s body away.

The situation escalated when Ifa, the prime suspect, turned himself in at the Morogbo Police Station with his lawyer on Wednesday, June 18. Enraged protesters attempted to lynch him, but police officers intervened, taking him into custody. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for further investigation.

A protester, who spoke anonymously, expressed frustration: “With the way the police are handling this, I doubt there will be justice. How can they treat a killer with such leniency?”

The Lagos State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement, at the moment but sources confirm that investigators are working to recover Jamiu’s remains and track down any fleeing suspects.

The incident has sparked outrage across Badagry, with residents calling for tighter security and swifter prosecution of ritual killers. As the investigation continues, the people of Badagry remain vigilant, vowing not to rest until justice is served for Jamiu Ishola.
