Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Officer Prince Orji Ogochukwu has been honored by the Federal Government for rejecting a ₦10 million bribe from a notorious suspected ritualist and kidnapper, Obi Levi Obieze (aka Levi Obu Onyeka).
The suspect was arrested while attempting to flee Nigeria through the Seme border in Badagry, Lagos.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) praised Ogochukwu’s unwavering moral courage in a statement on its verified Facebook page, calling his actions "Integrity in Action." The agency highlighted his commitment to Nigeria’s 7 for 7 National Values Charter, which emphasizes Integrity, Responsibility, Leadership, and Service.
"In a time when moral values are constantly tested, his courageous stand is a shining example of the kind of leadership our nation needs," NOA stated.
Obi Levi Obieze, described as a "billionaire native doctor," had been on the run for weeks following a nationwide manhunt. He is accused of multiple heinous crimes, including ritual killings and kidnappings in Enugu State.
Disguised as a regular traveler, Obieze tried to escape into Benin Republic on a commercial motorcycle but was recognized and apprehended by vigilant immigration officers.
The Lagos Command of the NIS has handed Obieze over to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution. Authorities have promised more updates as the case unfolds.
NOA commended Ogochukwu, stating: "This act of patriotism and moral strength gives hope for a better Nigeria. Thank you, Prince Orji Ogochukwu, for reminding us that true national pride begins with doing the right thing."
