Reuben Abati, a journalist and former presidential aide has launched a scathing criticism against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, labeling him as "rude and disrespectful." Abati’s comments come just a day after Wike mocked former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, calling him "power-hungry."
During a media briefing on Monday, Wike took a swipe at Amaechi, saying, “Now that they are out of power, they say they are hungry. It’s not hunger for food. It’s hunger for power.”
Reacting on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Tuesday, Abati condemned Wike’s statement, insisting that Amaechi was instrumental to Wike’s political rise.
“Nyesom Wike is very rude and disrespectful. Rotimi Amaechi is his boss in politics. When Wike was a local government chairman during Amaechi’s tenure, it was Amaechi who helped him,” Abati stated.
Abati further recalled Wike’s past disrespect towards elder statesmen, including former Rivers Governor Peter Odili, whom Wike allegedly dismissed as unqualified to be called an elder.
“There is no time he has not insulted Peter Odili. He even referred to him as ‘one man’ and his wife as ‘one woman,’” Abati revealed.
The journalist also issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu, suggesting that Wike could turn against him.
“Who will Nyesom Wike not insult? He insulted Senator John Mbata, his former godfather. Now, he’s subtly threatening Tinubu by saying he would have given different advice if he knew the President would declare a state of emergency in Rivers. Tinubu should beware Wike only cares about his interests, not loyalty.”
Abati’s warning raises concerns about Wike’s political temperament, hinting that his past behavior may repeat itself with Tinubu.
“President Tinubu should be cautious because tomorrow, Wike might insult him just like he did to others,” Abati said.
