Controversial social media influencer Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following multiple petitions accusing him of cyberstalking.

The EFCC confirmed the arrest to BBC News Pidgin, stating that VeryDarkMan was taken into custody after numerous individuals filed complaints against him.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale revealed that the influencer’s detention was based on several allegations of cyberstalking from different petitioners.

“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners,” Oyewale stated. “We will release him once he meets bail conditions, and we will take the case to court as soon as possible. The EFCC is a law-abiding agency.”

When questioned whether the case was linked to Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Oyewale clarified that the petitions came from multiple individuals, not a single entity. He emphasized that the EFCC has a duty to protect petitioners.

The EFCC has indicated plans to arraign the social media activist in court soon. VeryDarkMan, known for his outspoken and often controversial commentary, has amassed a large following and just as many critics.

This arrest has sparked heated debates online, with supporters demanding his release while others believe he should face legal consequences for alleged cyberstalking.
