The President-Elect Learning Seminar and District Learning Assembly, held on May 16th and 17th, 2025, in Ejigbo, Lagos State, Nigeria, brought together over 120 young leaders from across Lagos and Ogun States to prepare them for impactful service in the 2025/2026 Rotary year.

Incoming District Rotaract Representative Highlights Vision for Growth

Rtr. Halilu Senu Awesu, the incoming District Rotaract Representative (DRR), emphasized the importance of the training in shaping the next generation of community leaders. “We are here to train young individuals from various professions and academic institutions to make a lasting impact in their communities,” he stated. Awesu revealed that the seminar focused on three key pillars: engagement, Expansion, and Elevation (the 3 E’s) to strengthen the district’s impact.

“We are expanding our reach by establishing new clubs and empowering Rotaractors with skills to drive meaningful change. Our goal is not just to serve but to create a safer, better society through youth-led initiatives,” he added.

Rotary Leaders Encourage Storytelling and Collaboration

Rtn. Ezinne Obiha, the District Rotaract Community Chair, urged participants to amplify their achievements through effective storytelling. “We are doing incredible work, but we must tell our stories boldly. Sharing our impact doesn’t mean we are proud it means we are inspiring others to join the cause,” she remarked.

Meanwhile, Rtn. Prince Henry Akinyele, the District Governor-Elect for Rotary District 9111, assured Rotaractors of Rotary’s unwavering support. *“We will continue to collaborate with Rotaract clubs, recognizing outstanding performance not just with awards but with lasting legacies,”* he said. He also encouraged presidents to enhance their leadership skills and increase membership engagement in the coming year.

Outgoing DRR Reflects on Legacy and Future Growth

Rtr. Saka Oriyomi, the outgoing District Rotaract Representative, reflected on the challenges and successes of his tenure. “Leading the first-ever Rotaract District 9111 was no small feat, but we have laid a strong foundation,”* he said. Oriyomi encouraged prospective members to assess the real-life benefits of joining Rotaract by observing the impact on current members.

“If Rotaract wasn’t valuable, I wouldn’t have stayed for nine years. Look at our members see the growth, the opportunities, and the change we bring. Then decide if you want to be part of this movement,” he urged.
