NNPP Leader Vows Silence on Political Realignments, Warns Against Fake News

Dr. Rabiu Musa-Kwankwaso

The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Rabiu Musa-Kwankwaso, has firmly denied reaching any agreement with individuals or political parties regarding alleged defection plans to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other party.

Kwankwaso dismissed recent claims suggesting he had accepted a particular political position as "falsehood and political mischief," aimed at tarnishing his reputation. In a statement posted on his official X handle (@KwankwasoRM), the former Kano State governor maintained that he has deliberately avoided commenting on current political developments and intends to keep it that way.

A viral report had falsely claimed that Kwankwaso met with President Bola Tinubu multiple times, urging him to rejoin the APC. The NNPP chieftain swiftly refuted the claims, clarifying that he neither signed nor authorised any such statement.

The misleading report was attributed to one Ibrahim Rabiu, but Kwankwaso insisted:

“My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments. I wish to categorially state that such statements are false, unfounded, and products of political mischief."

He further cautioned the public to only trust official communications from his verified social media accounts and authorised spokespersons.

In a surprising twist, Ibrahim Rabiu, the alleged author of the fake statement, issued a public retraction, admitting he was misled by misinformation.

“I, Ibrahim Rabiu, wish to inform the general public that I was never authorised by Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso to issue any statement on his behalf. I tender a public apology and promise never to repeat such a childish act. I was misled by fake news agents,” he stated.

With political realignment rumours heating up, Kwankwaso’s denial puts a stop to speculations about his possible return to the APC. His insistence on silence regarding current political events suggests a strategic pause, leaving supporters and opponents guessing about his next move.

For now, one thing is clear Kwankwaso remains with the NNPP and warns against believing unverified claims.
