Two Men Arraigned for Stealing Neighbor’s Goats in Akinyele, Plead Not Guilty

Two men, Abubakar Sanni (22) and Ibrahim Saminu (24), were dragged before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for allegedly stealing two he-goats worth ₦200,000 from their neighbor in Akinyele, Ibadan.
The defendants, charged with conspiracy, breaking and entering, and theft, pleaded not guilty to the allegations. The prosecutor, Iyabo Oladoyin, told the court that the duo trespassed into Tayo Ogunlade’s property with criminal intent before making away with the goats.
The offence violates Section 383 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State (2000) and is punishable under Sections 390 (9), 411, and 516.
Chief Magistrate T. G. Daodu granted the accused bail at ₦500,000 each, requiring two sureties per defendant. One surety must be a blood relative. The case was adjourned to May 29, 2025, for further hearing.
Livestock theft remains a recurring issue in rural and semi-urban communities, often leading to disputes among neighbors. This case highlights the legal repercussions of such crimes in Oyo State.
