Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, a top contender for the chairmanship of Badagry Local Government, officially launched his campaign on Friday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat. The event marked the start of a ward-by-ward tour, with the aspirant engaging party leaders and residents to rally support ahead of the election.

Hunpe’s campaign team confirmed that the flag-off ceremony was followed by visits to key political wards, including Ward G in Ajido and Ward J in Topo Idale. According to supporters, the aspirant met with party executives and community leaders, reiterating his commitment to Badagry’s development if elected.

Mr. Tafa Dada, a prominent APC leader in Badagry, emphasized that the chairmanship position had been zoned to Constituency 2 based on past agreements.

He cited decisions by late leaders Chief Sunny Ajose and Mr. Moses Owolabani (Naminadu), which were recently reaffirmed in a meeting chaired by current apex leader Chief Moses Zannu Ogunbiyi.

Dada clarified that Wards F and H were prioritized for the chairmanship, noting that other wards already hold key political offices:  Ward E: Hon. Setonji David (Deputy Chief Whip, Lagos State House of Assembly)  Ward I: Hon. Sesi Whingan (House of Reps) & Mr. Olajuwon Mautin Akinyemi (Deputy Executive Secretary, UBEC)

Hunpe’s campaign claims widespread support across Badagry’s 10 wards, with residents reportedly turning out in large numbers to welcome his rally. Supporters expressed confidence in his leadership, citing his track record and vision for the local government.

The campaign tour continues Saturday, May 3, 2025, as Hunpe seeks to solidify his bid ahead of the election.
