Army handing over ceased rice to Customs |
Troops from the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, operating under Operation MESA, have intercepted 88 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice in a major crackdown on smuggling activities.
Acting on intel about illegal goods entering Nigeria, the soldiers ambushed the smugglers in the early hours of Thursday (4:00 AM) along Rounder-Imasayi Road in Abeokuta North LGA.
Two unregistered Mazda cars and a Ford bus were used to transport the contraband. Drivers fled upon spotting the troops, abandoning the vehicles. The seized rice and vehicles have been handed over to Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service for further action.
Capt. Samuel Akari, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to supporting government agencies in fighting smuggling and protecting the nation’s economy.
