The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has cleared 432 chairmanship aspirants for the upcoming July 12 Local Government elections while disqualifying 38 others over issues ranging from missing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to fake academic certificates.

The disqualifications followed a rigorous screening exercise held between April 29 and May 3 at the party’s secretariat in Ogba.

The APC Electoral Committee revealed that the disqualified aspirants failed to meet critical requirements. Some lacked valid PVCs, while others could not present authentic party membership cards. Additionally, several aspirants were found to have submitted fake secondary school certificates, automatically barring them from the race. The committee emphasized strict adherence to guidelines to ensure only qualified candidates participate in the primaries.

The party has scheduled indirect primaries for May 10, where executive members across Lagos’ 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) will vote. Disqualified aspirants have a two-day window (May 4–5) to appeal the decision. Those dissatisfied with the primaries’ outcome can file petitions between May 12 and 13.
A breakdown of the aspirants shows 111 male and 59 female candidates, reflecting a growing trend of women vying for grassroots leadership. Barr. Babatunde Ogala, Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, described the screening as successful, stating that all cleared candidates are capable of effective governance.
