Several JAMB Candidates Killed in Fatal Crash En Route to UTME Exam

Oyo State, Nigeria – A devastating auto crash on the Oyo-Ogbomoso road in Oyo State has left several students dead while they were traveling to sit for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).  

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning when a commercial vehicle transporting the students to their JAMB examination center in Ogbomoso suffered a brake failure, leading to a fatal accident.  

An eyewitness at the scene reported that the vehicle lost control due to brake failure, resulting in the deadly crash. A viral video obtained by SaharaReporters showed the wreckage of the vehicle, with the caption:  

"Fatal accident claimed the lives of students going to write JAMB in Ogbomoso on Oyo-Ogbomoso road, Oyo State."

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) has acknowledged the incident, confirming that officers were deployed to the scene. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the crash while families of the victims await official statements.  

 

This tragic incident has sparked renewed calls for better road maintenance and stricter vehicle safety checks, especially during critical national examinations like JAMB UTME, where thousands of students travel across states.  

As of press time, JAMB has not released an official statement regarding the accident. However, the board is expected to address the situation, given the involvement of UTME candidates.  

This heartbreaking event underscores the dangers faced by Nigerian students pursuing education amid poor road conditions and lax transport regulations. As investigations continue, many are urging both state and federal governments to prioritize road safety reforms** to prevent future tragedies.
