Abiodun Ashade, chairmanship aspirant for Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Badagry has been honored as a Lagos Youth Ambassador at the Youth and Governance Symposium organized by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
The prestigious decoration took place on Saturday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Ashade, who served as a panelist at the event, emphasized the readiness of Nigerian youths to actively participate in governance. "We already have the platform, and youths, through academic and social networks, are making significant impacts," he declared.
As the youngest panelist, Ashade stood out by challenging older leaders who once benefited from youth platforms to now invest politically in the younger generation. "Beyond asking if youths are ready, I urge those in power to encourage political inclusion for the younger generation," he stated.
Highlighting the influence of youth voters, Ashade pointed out that the high number of registered young voters in the 2023 elections proves their potential to shape leadership. "If united, youths can determine who leads the nation," he asserted, while also revealing his ambition: "I am the next Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA."
The Lagos Youth Ambassador title recognizes Ashade’s consistent youth engagement efforts. He described the honor as "a call to further service," stressing that power is not given but demanded with value. "Nobody hands over power; you must demand it with credible contributions," he concluded.
The event has further amplified Ashade’s growing influence as a youth advocate and political aspirant ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
