Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has awarded ₦10 million to Lagos State University’s (LASU) top graduate, Nwosu Isioma Sybil, who achieved a record-breaking 4.93 CGPA in Biochemistry.
During the 28th convocation ceremony at LASU’s Ojo campus, the governor reinforced his administration’s dedication to quality education, urging youths to prioritize academic excellence just as they would careers in entertainment or sports.
Represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu praised Nwosu’s outstanding performance, calling it a testament to hard work and resilience. He also announced a collaboration with NELFUND (Nigerian Education Loan Fund) to ensure Lagos students benefit from the national student loan scheme, making higher education more accessible.
"Education is the foundation of progress," Sanwo-Olu stated. "We must equip our students to become innovators and leaders who will drive Lagos—and Nigeria—forward."
LASU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, highlighted the institution’s achievements under her leadership, vowing to elevate LASU further. The ceremony also honored former Lagos Deputy Governor Femi Pedro and NDLEA Chairman Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa with honorary doctorates for their contributions to national development.
This move underscores the state’s push for educational excellence and youth empowerment, ensuring students have the tools to succeed in a competitive world.
