FRSC Alarms Over Rising Accidents on Agbara-Badagry Expressway, Warns Against Route Violations

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Badagry Unit Command, has raised the alarm over increasing accidents caused by reckless driving on the newly constructed Agbara-Badagry Expressway.  


At a town hall meeting held on Thursday, the FRSC sensitized drivers and road users on the dangers of route violations, particularly driving against traffic on the dual-carriageway.  


The event, themed "Dangers of Route Violations along Lagos-Seme Expressway,"* brought together transport unions, security agencies, and community leaders to address the surge in crashes since the road’s completion.  


Mr. William Manga, FRSC Unit Commander, highlighted the benefits of the newly expanded road while expressing concern over rising accidents.  


"The completion of the Agbara-Badagry Expressway is a significant infrastructure milestone, enhancing connectivity and boosting economic activities. However, we are witnessing a disturbing trend of route violations leading to fatal crashes," Manga stated.  


He emphasized that every accident caused by reckless driving represents "a family’s anguish and a community’s loss," urging motorists to adhere to traffic rules.  


To curb the menace, the FRSC announced an aggressive public awareness campaign, including:  Distribution of educational materials, Sensitization programs in churches, mosques, and motor parks, and Collaboration with transport unions to enforce compliance  


Mr. Henry Olufemi, Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO) of the Badagry Police Station, called on road union leaders to educate their members on the dangers of route violations.  


Alhaji Akeem Sanni, Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), commended the FRSC for the initiative and promised to enforce discipline among drivers.  


Meanwhile, Mr. Jude Tegbe of the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) warned against building or digging near gas pipelines, stressing the need for road safety to prevent disasters.  


Chief Sottin Adeoye, representing the Oba of Badagry, urged transport unions to instill discipline in their members, emphasizing that reckless driving endangers lives.  


The FRSC reiterated that violators would face strict penalties, urging drivers to prioritize safety over shortcuts.  


"Compliance with traffic laws is not just a legal duty—it’s a moral obligation to protect lives,"* Manga declared.
