The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra has confirmed a tragic accident at Ukpo Junction on the Nteje-Awka Road, claiming eight lives and leaving six injured.
The fatal crash occurred on Sunday night, involving an unregistered Mack tanker and a Toyota Hiace bus (registration: EKP375XM).
Sector Commander Joyce Alexander stated that the bus, traveling from Abakaliki to Onitsha, was speeding and attempted a wrongful overtake on a single carriageway. This led to a devastating head-on collision with the tanker heading toward Awka.
The crash resulted in eight fatalities—four males and four females—while six others (two males, four females) sustained injuries. FRSC’s rescue team from Nteje rushed the injured to the hospital and moved the deceased to Jerusalem Mortuary after medical confirmation.
Ms. Alexander visited survivors at Regina Caeli Hospital and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, offering support and condolences to grieving families. She also met with petroleum task force officials to discuss safety improvements.
The FRSC urged motorists to avoid speeding and reckless overtaking, emphasizing road safety to prevent future tragedies.
