Hundreds of youths from Badagry Local Government, Badagry West LCDA, and Olorunda LCDA converged at the Lagos Youth and Governance Symposium, organized by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos Chapter, to advocate for greater youth inclusion in governance and decision-making processes.
The event, held earlier today, brought together young leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss socio-political engagement, leadership development, and the role of youths in shaping Lagos State’s future.
Engr. Ibrahim Adigun, NYCN Lagos State Chairman, emphasized the symposium’s goal to "foster dialogue between young people and government institutions."
"This platform is designed to empower youths with the knowledge and networks needed to actively participate in governance," he stated.
Comr. Joseph Agbomenu, NYCN Badagry West Coordinator, highlighted the need for youth representation in political processes, urging young Nigerians to take up leadership roles.
"We must move beyond being spectators and become active players in governance," Agbomenu asserted.
Prince Gboweh Gabriel, NYCN Badagry LG Coordinator, stressed the importance of informed voting ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
"Youths must understand their power in electing leaders who prioritize their welfare," he noted.
Comr. Sodiq Balogun, NYCN Olorunda Coordinator, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment.
"The governor has demonstrated that youths are not just leaders of tomorrow but partners in today’s governance," Balogun remarked.
A standout moment was the sponsorship of over 50 Badagry youths by Hon. Adeniran Olusegun Onilude, Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, enabling their participation in the symposium.
"Investing in youth development is investing in the future of Badagry," said a representative from Onilude’s office.
The event featured high-profile speakers and facilitators, including: Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Commissioner for Youth & Social Development (representing Gov. Sanwo-Olu).
Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, Deputy Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA).
Emerging young political officeholders and industry experts.
Comr. Yewhenu Abiodun (aka Omoh), a youth leader in the Badagry Federation, praised the symposium as a "laudable initiative."
"We need more platforms like this to showcase the innovative perspectives young leaders bring to governance," he said.
With Lagos’s local government elections approaching, the symposium served as a critical mobilization tool, equipping youths with: Leadership skills for grassroots engagement. Awareness of their electoral influence. Networking opportunities with policymakers.
