The youth of Badagry West LCDA, under the Gbenu Youth Movement, have launched a formidable group of "Foot Soldiers" to demonstrate their unwavering support for Hon. Ibrahim Yemaren Rikay, a leading chairmanship aspirant in the upcoming local government elections.
The declaration and inauguration of the Foot Soldiers took place on Saturday at Suntan Beach, Badagry, drawing a massive crowd of enthusiastic youths and community stakeholders.
Addressing supporters, Rikay (as he is popularly known) expressed gratitude for the overwhelming endorsement, stating:
"It is God who decides who emerges. When I heard I was the chosen candidate, I didn’t know how to thank Him. Some say it’s about zoning, but others argue that’s not the case—if zoning existed, it should have been documented."
"One lesson I’ve learned is not to scrutinize everything your leader does—because one day, you’ll be in that position too. Sincerity matters in leadership. If we had caused division in Badagry West, the current chairman wouldn’t have achieved his successes. Thankfully, we stood by him."
Sunday Aladeotan, Convener of the Gbenu Youth Movement, praised the current administration under Hon. Gbenu Henugbe for its youth-friendly policies:
"Hon. Gbenu has performed exceptionally—80% of his political appointees are young people, including supervisors. His government has truly paved the way for youth inclusion. We commend his developmental programs and urge continued support for progressive leadership."
He also called for peaceful campaigning, urging youths to reject political thuggery, bullying, and criminality:
"We must campaign with love and unity. Politics should not divide us—we are one community."
Agnes Zosu, a participant at the event, declared: "Rikay is our choice in Badagry West! He’s experienced, principled, and generous—a true leader who supports women and the party. If you’re not close to him, you won’t understand his selfless nature."
With the Foot Soldiers now mobilized, Rikay’s campaign gains momentum as Badagry West LCDA anticipates a highly competitive election. Supporters believe his grassroots connection and track record make him the ideal candidate to lead the council.
