Video evidence has shown that the Mandate Group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badagry Local Government has officially declared Hon. Babatunde Hunpe as its preferred chairmanship aspirant for the 2025 Local Government elections.
The announcement came after a transparent voting process held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the Badagry Local Government Council Secretariat.
In a press statement issued to News Peddlers on Tuesday, the Mandate Group revealed that the election was conducted under the supervision of former Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Samuel Sejoro, who served as the Electoral Officer. A total of 21 delegates were accredited for the exercise, which commenced at 12:20 PM. The results of the election were as follows:
Hon. Babatunde Hunpe – 18 votes
Hon. Setonji S. Balogun– 2 votes
Hon. Risikat Padonu-Hassan– 1 vote
Other aspirants – 0 votes
With an overwhelming majority, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe was declared the winner and subsequently adopted as the Mandate Group’s flag bearer for the upcoming Badagry Local Government Chairmanship election in 2025.
The leadership of the Mandate Group in Badagry praised all aspirants for their spirit of sportsmanship and reiterated their commitment to fostering unity, fairness, and a resounding victory for the APC in the forthcoming elections.

Prior to the election, a strategic meeting was convened on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the residence of the Council Chairman. "The meeting was held in response to a directive from the Lagos State leadership of the Mandate Group, which instructed all local government coordinators to collaborate with their respective Council Chairmen and Apex Leaders to streamline the selection process for the 2025 Chairmanship election.
"The meeting was attended by Mandate Apex Leaders from the ten wards in Badagry Local Government, the Council Chairman, the APC Apex Leader in Badagry, the Mandate Group Coordinator, and all Chairmanship aspirants who are members of the Mandate Group. Notably absent were Hon. Avoseh Hodewu, Hon. Elizabeth Kappo, and Hon. Paul Iroko, who tendered their apologies for not being able to attend," the release stated.
During the meeting, the leadership of the Mandate Group briefed the aspirants on the directive from the state leadership and sought their input on the best approach to selecting a consensus candidate. After extensive deliberations, the aspirants unanimously agreed to abide by the decision of the leaders.
To ensure a fair and transparent process, the leadership resolved that the Coordinators of the Mandate Group and the LGA Executives would cast votes to determine the group’s flag bearer for the 2025 Chairmanship election. This decision paved the way for the election held on March 17, 2025, which ultimately saw Hon. Babatunde Hunpe emerge as the preferred candidate.
