Hon. Samson Folorunso Olatunde (SAMOLA), the Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Badagry Local government has taken steps to mitigate the risk of flooding in the area.

On Monday, he led a team to clear a major canal along the Oko-Afo-Ilogbo road, a critical drainage channel that had been completely blocked, posing a significant threat to residents.

Understanding the urgency of the situation, SAMOLA’s administration swiftly mobilized resources to ensure the free flow of water, reducing the risk of environmental hazards in the community. This initiative is part of the Chairman’s ongoing commitment to addressing flooding and other infrastructural challenges in the area.

Residents may recall that in 2024, SAMOLA launched a comprehensive environmental campaign that involved desilting drainage channels across all five wards of the LCDA.

Monday’s canal-clearing exercise is a continuation of these efforts, underscoring his administration’s dedication to protecting lives and property.

During the exercise, Hon. Olatunde, accompanied by members of his cabinet and officials from the Environment Department, highlighted the importance of the project.

He said, “We cannot afford to wait until flooding becomes a crisis. This proactive approach is part of our ongoing strategy to mitigate environmental risks and improve the overall well-being of our people. We remain committed to taking timely action to ensure a safer and healthier community.”*

With this strategic initiative, the SAMOLA-led administration reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and proactive governance. By taking decisive action ahead of the rainy season, Olorunda LCDA is better prepared to face potential challenges, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
