The House of Representatives has donated N705 million to President Bola Tinubu to bolster his humanitarian initiatives and support vulnerable Nigerians.

The generous contribution, representing a six-month 50 per cent deduction from the lawmakers' salaries, was presented by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during an Iftar dinner hosted by the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Abbas expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for inviting the House leadership and members to break the Ramadan fast with him. He highlighted the president’s consistent respect and concern for the legislative body, emphasizing the significance of the holy month as a time for reflection and unity.

“Ramadan is a period of deep reflection—on where we were, where we are, and where we aspire to be as a nation. Nigeria, more than ever, needs this kind of introspection,” Mr. Abbas stated.

He urged both Christians and Muslims to use the fasting period to pray for the country’s progress, particularly for economic stability, improved security, and the well-being of leaders and citizens alike.

The Speaker also praised the Tinubu administration for its achievements within two years, calling on Nigerians to reflect on the government’s efforts and continue to support its policies. “Every member of the House of Representatives stands firmly behind the president. We believe his policies are designed for the betterment of the people and the nation as a whole,” he affirmed.

The donation underscores the lawmakers’ commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s vision and addressing the needs of vulnerable populations across the country. As Nigeria navigates its challenges, the gesture reflects a collective effort to foster unity and progress during this sacred period of Ramadan.
