Florence Nwaeke, wife of former Rivers State Head of Service George Nwaeke, has raised a shocking alarm, claiming her husband is being held under duress in Abuja and coerced into making false allegations against suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In a tearful plea to journalists, Mrs. Nwaeke revealed that her husband’s sudden "interview" accusing Fubara of corruption and orchestrating the Rivers Assembly bombing was done under pressure.
Mrs. Nwaeke said she discovered her husband’s statements online but could not reach him. "I sent him messages to ask if he was kidnapped or under duress—no reply. His lines are dead. Nigerians, please help me; my husband is in trouble!" she cried.
According to Florence, her husband was pressured to sign documents linking Fubara to an alleged N15 billion fraud from Abuja. When he refused, he was accused of shielding the governor and forced to resign.
"They said he was covering for Fubara, but he denied knowing anything about the money. He chose to resign rather than sign false documents," she stated.
In a widely circulated press briefing, George Nwaeke accused Fubara of: Funding the bombing of the Rivers Assembly ("A bag of cash was given to Edison Ehie for the operation!", and Faking innocence in the political crisis ("I almost resigned because I knew the truth")
Governor Fubara swiftly denied the claims, alleging Nwaeke was "paid or coerced to lie." Meanwhile, the sole administrator of Rivers State has already appointed a new Acting Head of Service.
