Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, Member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency, in a determined effort to restore electricity to Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), which has endured a total blackout for over a year, has once again brought the issue to the forefront.
He raised the matter during a House Committee visit to the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) on Monday.
Hon. Whingan, who has consistently engaged the REA through letters and official visits, reiterated the urgent need to reconnect Badagry West to the national grid. Speaking during the oversight visit by the House Committee on Climate Change, the lawmaker emphasized the critical importance of swift intervention. He highlighted how the prolonged power outage has crippled economic activities and severely worsened living conditions for residents.
During the meeting, the Managing Director of REA, Abba Abubakar Aliu, provided updates on the agency’s ongoing electrification projects. These include a nationwide initiative to power 100 communities per state using renewable energy. While acknowledging these efforts, Hon. Whingan insisted that Badagry West must not be excluded from such interventions.
“As we advocate for renewable and climate-friendly electrification, it is imperative that underserved communities like Badagry West benefit from these solutions. I have engaged REA repeatedly on this issue, and I will continue to push until power is restored to my constituents,” Hon. Whingan stated firmly.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to resolving Badagry West’s electricity challenges and urged the REA to prioritize the area in its upcoming projects. He assured his constituents that he would not relent until their right to stable electricity is fully restored.
Hon. Whingan’s persistent advocacy underscores his dedication to improving the lives of his constituents and ensuring that no community is left behind in the quest for sustainable development. As Badagry West continues to grapple with the challenges of a year-long blackout, the hope for a brighter, electrified future remains alive, thanks to the relentless efforts of their representative.
