Prof. Dauda Yunus, Director Lagos State University School of Basic and Advanced Studies (LASUSBAS), has highlighted the recent progress in the school under Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the current Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, and that the school needs more infrastructural development.

This was disclosed on Monday to the governing council of LASU led by Sir David Sunmoni, the Pro-chancellor and chairman governing council of LASU, who was on an official visit to the campus at Badagry, Lagos State.

The visit aimed to assess the existing infrastructure and determine necessary improvements.

Dauda cited accomplishments such as the construction of two new cafeterias, the establishment of a CBT centre, the purchase of a 150 KVA generator, the renovation of classrooms and laboratories, the donation of a new ambulance, and the installation of solar lights on campus and in hostels.

He also mentioned furnishing seminar rooms, building a student reading room at Aradagun hostel, purchasing a photocopy machine, installing 40 CCTV cameras at Topo Campus and purchasing a security patrol bus.

He added that the school has achieved remarkable success in JUPEB exams thanks to the prompt payment of staff salaries, tutor training, and JUPEB examination fees.

However, he appealed to the governing council for additional support, including the provision of student hostels, the purchase of a 42-seater coaster bus, the expansion of the CBT centre, the construction of more classrooms to accommodate growing student numbers, the building of a perimeter fence along the lagoon for security, the painting of campus buildings, and the establishment of additional administrative offices.

In response, Sir David Sunmoni promised to enhance facilities in the school.

He explained that the governing council of LASU has an oversight function over all university activities and that the visit allowed them to gather firsthand information on the state of facilities and identify areas for improvement.

The council members and administrative staff inspected various facilities, including the library, CCTV control room, science classrooms and laboratories, conference rooms, arts and social sciences classrooms, the Computer-Based Test centre, and the cafeteria.

Following the inspection, Sunmoni promised an expansion of the CBT centre to accommodate more students and external candidates.

He also assured that faulty electrical appliances would be repaired promptly.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo, expressed appreciation for the council’s visit, emphasising that the inspection would provide valuable insights for further development.
