120 miters road construction on Owode-Apa road |
The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to commission 120 meters out of 15 kilometers of the Owode Apa abandoned road in Badagry Local Government, Lagos State.
A source resident in the area who spoke with News Peddlers said the construction was commenced on Saturday, 14th February 2025 and the Federal ministry of works visited the site on Monday, taking pictures and video's before leaving.
It was initially gathered that the contractor was instructed to construct the 120 mt with his money before the project could be awarded to him.
Another source revealed that the 120 meters of road construction is ongoing, which is slated for commissioning next week.
But when approached by a youth in the community to inquire about the nature of the work, the contractor told him that it was only a palliative work.
Prior to the period in 2023, about 2 kilometers were constructed from Gbaji to Afowo before it was abandoned. The same road was awarded with the sum of 4 billion Naira in 2017 under former president Muhammadu Buhari.
Similarly, the uncompleted Ajara-Agbovipe to Iragon road was also commissioned under Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, former governor of Lagos State, in 2018 and was said to have been completed; meanwhile, it was not constructed, and today it is in a very bad state, and the road has cut about 15 communities out of the rest of Badagry.
Also in Iyafin, Badary, the road was awarded under former Governor Fashola and was partly constructed before eventually being abandoned, throwing thousands of residents into suffering.
