Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Lagos State commissioner for youth and social development, has said discipline, good character, and self-belief are important in sports, as these will shape the lives of young athletes, teaching them valuable lessons about teamwork.
Ogunlende discusses this on Thursday when he made a pit stop at Chrisland High School in Lekki to attend the Nigeria PONY Baseball and Softball League.
The event was a collaborative effort between Tentalite Softball and Baseball, Gold Heart Baseball and Softball Academy, Badagry Angels Softball, Lagos, and RISE Have a Catch USA.
The commissioner used the opportunity to interact with the young participants and offer them some words of encouragement.
Emphasizing on the importance of discipline, good character, and self-belief, urging them to give their best efforts in the competition. "I believe that sports play a significant role in shaping the lives of young people, teaching them valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and fair play.
Adding that it is a testament to the commitment to supporting and encouraging youth in sports, "I was delighted to be a part of this event. I am passionate about promoting softball and baseball in Lagos, and I believe that initiatives like this league are essential in identifying and nurturing young talent."
