The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, under Commissioner Mobolaji Ogunlende, has distributed over 600 food packs to various youth groups comprising private orphanages as well as formal and informal youth organizations, in a move aimed at providing relief to vulnerable groups across the state.
The distribution was held on Tuesday at the Ikeja Youth Centre, Lagos State.
The food packs were part of palliatives provided to the Lagos State Government by the Bank of Industry (BOI) for Lagosians.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Ogunlende emphasized that the exercise was in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's directive to ensure fair and transparent distribution of palliatives. He explained the decision to prioritize private orphanages and informal youth groups this time.
"We have done this before, and many of you did not benefit. So, instead of calling the same people, we decided to invite a different set of beneficiaries. None of the 15 Lagos State-owned homes benefited from this; we focused on private homes this time."
Ogunlende reaffirmed the government's commitment to inclusion, promising continuous support for vulnerable groups.
"When I resumed office, I promised your umbrella bodies that I would carry everyone along whenever there is an opportunity. This may not be life-changing, but it is a reminder that we see you, we hear you, and we care for our people."
Addressing private orphanages specifically, "This is our way of saying thank you for all you do. We see your efforts, we appreciate you, and we consider you partners in progress," he added.
