At least 20 people are dead after two passenger boats capsized in Lagos on Monday night.
It was discovered that the boats were carrying 16 passengers each and caved in after colliding around 7 p.m. at Imore lagoon.

The boats' final destination, however, remains unknown. The incident occurred on Monday night.

The police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the tragedy and stated that 11 of the passengers had been rescued.
According to the police, an accident report was filed at the Ilashe Police Division, and the boats were unregistered.

When the boats overturned, all 32 passengers and their belongings drowned, according to Hundeyin, who also said that it required the assistance of local divers, the police, and other emergency personnel to save the 11.

He added that search and rescue efforts were still underway for the remaining victims. He said that those who were rescued had injuries and were taken right away to the Naval Town Hospital in Ojo for medical care.

Regarding the incident, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has not yet released an official statement.
