Hon. Sesi Whingan, the Member House of Representatives representing Badagry Federal Constituency, has expressed concern regarding the decline in number of participants coming to Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) and has questioned multiple checkpoints discouraging tourists.

He disclosed this on his official X handle, following an oversight visit to the institution on Wednesday, September 4th, 2024.

"This marks our second oversight visit under the 10th Assembly, and I am deeply concerned about the decrease in participants attending the College for training compared to this time last year.

"ASCON plays a critical role in public service training, and we must ensure it continues to deliver on its mandate." He said

During the visit, which was carried out in collaboration with the House Committee on Public Service Matters, Hon. Whingan also highlighted the importance of ASCON in the professional development of public servants and emphasized the need for the institution to remain a key player in Nigeria's public sector.

Whingan also disclosed that he and the committee met with the Comptroller of Immigration Service and the Comptroller of Customs Service of the Seme Command at the ECOWAS Building.

In order to address the issue of over 50 checkpoints on the road, "As a representative of Badagry, I raised concerns over reports of tourists being harassed by immigration officers. Badagry, being a tourism-driven community, cannot afford such incidents, as they threaten our economy and reputation. These issues must be resolved swiftly to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our visitors."

Concluding the day's engagements, Hon. Whingan revealed to Badagry Parrot News that he and his colleagues paid a courtesy visit to Nigeria House in the Benin Republic. He remarked, "This visit was an important opportunity to strengthen diplomatic ties and highlight the significance of collaboration between the High Commission and the Nigerian Legislature." Whingan said.

Hon. Whingan reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Badagry and ensuring the effectiveness of public institutions.

"I remain committed to advocating for the development of Badagry and upholding the standards of public service in Nigeria.

I will continue to work diligently to ensure that our institutions serve the people effectively and that our communities remain safe and welcoming to all," he added.
