Rotary Club, an international nongovernmental organization, has donated the sum of 30 million dollars to four African countries, where Nigeria got the sum of 9 million dollars to eradicate malaria, nimonia, and cholera.
Rotarian Ifeyinwa Rita Ejezie District Governor, Rotary District 9110, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday at the commissioning of three blocks of classrooms at Agbara Grammar School, Ogun State.
Rotarian Rita said, "Nigeria is getting 9 million dollars out of the 30 million dollars to fight malaria, nimonia, and cholera, When you put it at the current dollar rate, you will know it's a huge amount. You can now imagine the kind of money Rotary has spent around the world. Thanks to Rotary, we are able to fight and eradicate polio in Nigeria.
"All this we're doing is because we appreciate the fact that the government can not do it alone and that Nigeria is a large country. That is why we join hands with the government to do good around the country. Our theme this year is to create hope in the world," she said
The District governor also said, "Rotary is known for doing good in the world. We are Rotarians, and we are proud of what we do, in reaching out to our communities in different areas. We call these eight areas of focus, which are mental health, basic education and literacy, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, environmental cleaning, and planting trees.
"The projects of Rotary are mostly benefited by African countries, despite the fact that Rotary headquarters is located in Chicago, where they don't have such diseases. The difference between Rotary and other organisations is that we don't look at tribe, religion, or colour, all we do is do good to the world.
"The source of funding is Rotary Foundation, "I'm a major donor level 2, which means I have given Rotary over 25,000 dollars, not to mention over 5,000 Rotarians in my district alone. I have people who are Arch Klumph Society (AKS) members. They are people who have given Rotary 250,000 dollars individually.
"We have trustees that gave Rotary millions of dollars, Somebody like Emeka Ofor in Abuja has given Rotary over 3 million dollars," she added
