Agbara Grammar School and Igbesa Health Care Centre |
The Rotary Club of Agbara has commissioned Igbesa Health Care Centre renovated in collaboration with Green Recycling Industries and three blocks of classrooms in Agbara Grammar School, Ogun State.
Both projects were commissioned by Ifeyinwa Rita Ejezie District Governor, Rotary District 9110, and Saidat Animashaun, the vice chairman, Ado-Odo Ota, representing Eng. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the deputy governor, Ogun State.
Rotarian Joshua Cole, the president Rotary Club Agbara, said, "Three years ago, when I came to Agbara Grammar School, the school was in a terrible state, way below standards.
"When we started, we had a budget of about 9.5 million. We were thinking it was going to be just a small one, but not knowing that there were no pillars, beams, or roof, so we had to take off the roof, reinforce the building, adding more pillars and beams, and that cost us about N30 million. The economy was good when we started, that was when the cost of cement was still about N5,000, but halfway through the project, the cost of cement went up to about N10,000 plus. Adding the increased cost of labour, it wasn't easy for us to manage, but however we got it done," he said.
Animashaun said, "What Rotary has done is a great job, because with the situation of the country’s economy, for Rotary to have brought out money to reconstruct the two projects that we are commissioning today."
She added that other organisations in the state should keep on doing such projects, as the people of Ogun are benefiting from them. Urging the people of Igbesa and Agbara to take care of these projects.
Rotarian Rita, said, "The eight Rotary areas of focus that are considered before carrying out projects include mental health, basic education and literacy, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, environment cleaning, and planting trees.
"This is what we do to touch lives in our communities. I am glad to be here this afternoon for Rotary Club Agbara, which is known for carrying out big projects every year. Last year I was in this Agbara to commission a 10 bedroom bungalow handed over to NYSC, and today we are here again.
Ali Fawaz, the general manager Green Recycling Industries OPIC estate Agbara, said, "The people in this area are already missing this health facility. There are people here who need medical attention that's where our role comes in because we see that there is a need for that. Everyone has to do their responsibility because I'm not considering that I am doing something extra. This is actually everyone's responsibility, as we are all part of this community.
