The National Association of Philosophy Students (NAPS), Lagos State University, Ojo, Chapter, has presented an award for outstanding service to humanity, at academic symposium held to educate students on Volue of philosophy.
The program was with the theme "Academic Excellence and Beyond: A Guiding Path on the Values of Philosophy." It was held on Wednesday at the premises of Lagos State University, Ojo.
Augustine Kiki, who represented Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, who spoke with News Peddlers, said, "It was a very educative event, as various speakers shared their perspectives on the importance of philosophy in education and the larger society."
He further highlighted the values of philosophy as a veritable tool for critical thinking, reflection, logic, and, above all, probing all conventional assumptions with a view to drawing logical conclusions. He added that every academic discipline has philosophical foundation and dimension, hence, as a subject that prioritizes wisdom and critical reasoning, the students should leverage on its values going forward.
Other dignitaries at the event were Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule, represented by Hon. Kappo Samuel Olawale (SSA, Students' Union Affairs - Tertiary Education), Mr. Joshua Aluko, Founder Great People Foundation (Keynote Speaker), Prof. Afisi Oseni, Director of Special Intervention, Lagos State University, Ojo, and other academic staff of the Department of Philosophy and the University at Large.
An award was presented to Mr. Kiki on behalf of Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende for his outstanding service to Youth and Community. "This award is another testimony to the giant strides of Hon. Ogunlende in making positive impact in the youth constituency and society in general." Kiki said.
