Two teenagers were charged on Friday in Lagos' chief magistrates' court with allegedly stealing a cell phone from a mosque.
Police charged Yusuf Sejiro, 18, and Pego Anuoluwapo, 18, with conspiracy, trespassing, and theft.
They pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Adeosun, informed the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 15 at 12:25 a.m. in the Lopo community of Ajara, Badagry.
Mr Ayodele claimed that the defendants unlawfully entered the mosque and stole a Samsung Galaxy A034 phone worth N200,000 from the complainant, Mr Abdul-Kudus Hassan.
The prosecutor stated that the offence violated sections 287, 411, and 308 of Lagos State's Criminal Law, 2015.
Section 287 mandates a three-year prison sentence for theft, while section 411 mandates two years for conspiracy.
Patrick Adekomaiya, the chief magistrate, admitted the defendants to N50,000 bail each, with two sureties in the same amount.
Mr Adekomaiya postponed the case until May 20 for mention.
