Akinwunmi Ambode |
All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders have emphasised the need for the party to give the governorship ticket to former governor of the state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, claiming he has the magic touch to transform the state.
Speaking on behalf of Lagos stakeholders, APC stalwart Oluwaseyi Bamigbade stated that during Ambode's four-year tenure in the state, massive infrastructure development occurred.
This came after Muslims in Lagos State expressed a desire for one of their own to be governor in 2027, according to an Islamic human rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC).
He stated that many groups yearn for Ambode's return in 2027 to continue his midas touch in Lagos' development agenda, and that they believe he should be given the opportunity to serve a second term in the government as the constitution allows.
Bamigbede stated, ''Within four years in office, he transformed Lagos into an investment destination for large businesses from within and outside the country. He had such a profound impact on the lives of millions of Lagosians in every way that he appeared to have been in office for much longer.
''He caused a paradigm shift by moving the government from the city to the suburbs and widening their narrow roads, resulting in modern streets with lights that also connect arterial highways. It's been a smooth operation that has prevented traffic jams on the motorways.
''Ambode's health and education initiatives spread throughout Lagos' suburbs, providing opportunities for the son of a nobody to receive a free and decent education that would prepare them for the future. Understanding the role of science in the current educational system, Ambode established templates during his tenure in office that suggest a progressive look into the future where science and technology will lead.
He added that the Ambode administration established the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency, which is responsible for collaborating with the Federal Police and other security agencies to ensure the safety of Lagos State.
"The Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps is a model for community policing, and other state governments are now replicating it in light of the prevalent security challenges," he stated.
