Police have arrested Abdullahi Isa for allegedly dehumanising, locking up, and starving his wife for nearly two years in Borno State's Maiduguri Metropolitan Area.
Following a report by human rights organisations, the suspect was apprehended by men from the Gwange Police Division.
On Friday, Daily Trust correspondent witnessed a woman being carried into a waiting ambulance.
When Daily Trust contacted Comrade Lucy D. Yunana, a women and children's rights activist seen in the video, on Sunday, she said the incident happened on Friday in Maiduguri's Gwange 3 area.
She explained that Bulama of Gwange took her staff to the suspect's home, where she had been imprisoned for nearly two years.
"Fortunately, our staff were conducting some SGBV awareness in Gwange when Bulama of the area took our staff to the house where she was locked up, and what they saw was indeed terrible, prompting us to notify the relevant authority in order to save the woman's life."
"We went there with the Human Rights Commission's Zonal Coordinator, Barr. Jumai Mshelia, and saw her in the room; she was in a bad and dehumanised condition, and she was taken to the hospital where medics are working to revive her."
However, the suspect, Isa Abdullahi, claimed that they had seven children together, all of whom are deceased, and that his wife has been tormented by an evil spirit, which is why he locked her up.
