Governor Rotimi Akeredolu |
As Ondo Governor Rotimi Akeredolu battles a strange illness, state civil servants have asked him to "rest" and finish his treatment rather than rush back to prepare for governance.
Government workers, through the state's organised labour, said in a joint statement issued on Wednesday that they are aware of Mr Akeredolu's desire to resume work as the state's chief executive officer.
"Despite his speedy recovery, we strongly urge our dear governor to prioritise rest and complete recuperation before resuming his duties. We understand his inclination to resume work promptly due to his strong work ethic, but we implore him to allow himself more time to rest and fully recover.
“The Organised Labour in Ondo State remains committed to interceding on behalf of the governor. We express our profound appreciation for the governor’s unwavering love and dedication to the workers and people of the Sunshine State,” the workers said in the statement jointly signed by Messers Oladele Victor Amoko (NLC chairperson), Olapade Ademola (JNC chairman), and Clement Fatuase (TUC chairman) in the state.
Mr Akeredolu, who is currently battling an undisclosed illness, has been out of the state attending to his medical needs.
Since the governor's absence, there has been political squabbling among members of his cabinet, particularly those vying to succeed him.
However, the workers expressed their joy at learning of Mr Akeredolu's quick recovery, as well as their heartfelt gratitude to God for his unwavering grace and healing bestowed upon the governor.
"We urge all citizens and residents of the state to continue to pray for our governor's health." He has proven to be the best governor in recent memory, and we will remain steadfastly by his side, providing unwavering support to his administration until the end."
The governor is expected to resume back to the state on July 6, 2023.
