Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has awarded N10 million to Aminat Yusuf, a record-breaking graduating Law student at Lagos State University (LASU).
Sanwo-Olu presented the money to Yusuf, who earned a CGPA of 5.0, at the institution's 26th convocation ceremony on Thursday in the Ojo-Iyana Iba area of Lagos State.
The governor announced a N5 million personal donation and a N5 million state government donation for Yusuf, who broke a 40-year-old record at LASU.
Yusuf, a student at LASU's Faculty of Law, was the best graduating student for the 2021/2022 academic session, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0.
Her accomplishment was recognised by a Lagos monarch, the Oniba of Iba Kingdom, Oba Sulaimon Adeshina Raji, who gave her N2 million and promised her full sponsorship through Law School.
Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice Chancellor of LASU, announced last week that Yusuf would receive a N500,000 cash prize.
Mrs Olatunji-Bello stated that the university would graduate 10,183 students, with 282 receiving First Class honours in various fields.
While Ms Yusuf is the top first-class graduate for the 2021/2022 academic session, Feyisayo Lopez from the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine was the best for the 2020/2021 session with a 4.91 CGPA.
